§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many recorded thefts from museum store rooms have taken place in each of the last 10 years; what was the total value of the articles stolen; and whether such items were catalogued.
§ Mr. ChannonThis information is not collected centrally. National museums and galleries are required to notify the Government of thefts of objects valued at more than £250, but the precise location of the object at the time of theft is usually recorded only if it was on display or on loan. No corresponding requirement applies to local museums and galleries.
