HC Deb 05 April 1982 vol 21 c258W
Mr. Walter Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has received concerning handing back control of London Transport to his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Howell

Although I have had no formal proposals, the idea has been canvassed by a number of hon. Members and by the chairman of London Transport. I have made it clear that if the GLC fails to carry out responsibly its duties towards London Transport, the Government might have to impose their own solution. Changes in structure and responsibilities would obviously be an option.
