asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many people were discovered to have tried to defraud the Inland Revenue in each year since 1975; how much was recovered in each of these years; and how much was received in fines and interest payments;

(2) what was the total underpayment of tax or fraud discovered by the Inland Revenue in each year since 1975; and how much it is estimated was not discovered in these years;

(3) how many people have been employed on tax evasion and fraud work by the Inland Revenue in each year since 1975; what was the average amount consequently recovered per person employed in each year; and what was the total cost of this work for the years in question.
