§ Mr. WakehamThe firm intention remains that the council should become financially independent as soon as possible. The Government have previously indicated that they would be prepared to help finance the council's initial running costs. Subject to Parliament providing the necessary funds, they envisage that this support will take the form of a grant in aid of not more than £1 million in each of the council's first three financial years.
