HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c423W

Mr. Parry asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of young people under 20 years of age unemployed on Merseyside and in Liverpool, respectively, at the latest available date.

Mr. Alison:

At 9 July, the latest date for which the information is available, the numbers of young people under 20 years of age registered as unemployed in the Merseyside special development area and in the Liverpool travel—to—work area were 28,162 and 18,969, respectively.

The youth opportunities programme has been expanded this year to provide help to over half a million unemployed young people, through courses of work experience and training.
