§ Mr. Christopher Price asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will define the status of the sovereign base areas in Cyprus in view of their categorisation as "colonies" in schedule 6 to the British Nationality Bill now before Parliament; and what relationship they have to the European Communities.
§ Mr. Humphrey Atkins: The subheading "Colonies" has been deleted from schedule 6 to the British Nationality Bill. The status of the sovereign base areas is as set out in the Treaty of Establishment, Cmnd. 1252 of 1960. Article 227 of the Treaty of Rome stated that that Treaty does not apply to the sovereign base areas.
