HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c429W

Mr. Cook asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the respective proportions of low, medium and high level radioactive wastes that have arisen due to (a) civil and (b) military activities in Great Britain.

Mr. Giles Shaw:

I regret that it would not be in the national interest to provide this information. However, the amounts of radioactive waste in all three categories arising from military activities are relatively small compared with those arising from civil activities. Figures for civil activities were given in the report of the expert group which reviewed Cmnd. 884 "The Control of Radioactive Wastes", and copies are available in the Library of the House.
