HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c407W

Mr. George asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied that the information contained in the police national computer is available only to authorised personnel; and if he is satisfied that no information has been transmitted for commercial gain.

Mr. Whitelaw:

As I said in the answer given on 26 October 1981 to a question by the hon. Member for Barking (Miss Richardson), the police national computer system has electronic, physical and procedural safeguards. I understand that information has been laid before the chief constable, Thames Valley police, alleging that information from the computer has been given corruptly to unauthorised persons. The chief constable has instituted an investigation into the allegations.
