HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c414W

Miss Maynard asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the cost to public funds in the last year of attendance by police officers carrying out public order duties at meets of foxhounds.

Mr. Mayhew:

This information is not available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost.

Miss Maynard asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department who pays for the police who are called out for foxhunts when there are demonstrations by antibloodsport bodies and others.

Mr. Mayhew:

Attendance at public demonstrations is a normal police duty funded in the usual way through police grant arrangements.

Miss Maynard asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the police receive payment for attending foxhunts on the same basis as they do for attending football matches.

Mr. Mayhew:

No.
