§ Mr. David Steel asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will inquire into recent evidence that the 555 Canadian officers who were in Stalag Luft 3 during the war contributed to the communal fund along with British officers and that their contributions have not been refunded; if he will make restitution to the officers concerned; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Wiggin: After the war the Government accepted responsibility for the balances of certain communal funds including the Stalag Luft 3 fund, in so far as they were contributed by United Kingdom personnel. Contributions by personnel of Dominion Forces were not the responsibility of the United Kingdom Government.
