Mr. Heddle asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what are the entitlements of registered blind people to reductions in the television licence fee;

(2) what is the current amount in the reduction of the television licence fee for registered blind people.

I have been asked to reply.

I refer my hon. Friend to section 2(2) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949, as amended by section 1 of the Wireless Telegraphy (Blind Persons) Act 1955. The amount of the reduction is £1.25.

Mr. Heddle asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many registered blind people have applied for reductions in the television licence fee at the latest available date;

(2) what was the estimated cost of reductions in the television licence fee for registered blind people over the last five years;

(3) whether any proposals to increase the amount of the television licence fee allowance for registered blind people are being considered by him.
