HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 c364W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is satisfied that the present structure of West European Union meets the requirements of the modified Brussels Treaty; or, if not, whether any adaptation to new requirements is proposed.

Mr. Humphrey Atkins:

I have been asked to reply.

Her Majesty's Government continue to attach importance to Western European Union and have no plans to seek amendment of the modified Brussels Treaty. The Government have, however, noted the Assembly's view, as expressed in its recommendation 365, that resources of the individual organs of Western European Union should be redeployed to adapt the latter to present conditions, and are giving careful consideration to this recommendation.
