HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 c350W
34. Mr. Lyell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what progress has been made in obtaining United States agreement to the export to China, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Warsaw Pact countries of nonstrategic high technology products manufactured in the United Kingdom and other North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Rees:

Exports of high technology products are subject to restriction only when considered strategically sensitive. Such restrictions are operated in concert with our allies and are the subject of continuing discussion. A major review is due in autumn 1982. Since the invasion of Afghanistan, controls on exports to the Soviet Union have been tightened.
