HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 c384W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he now expects to seek an extension of the less favoured areas in Northern Ireland; and when he intends to pursue the matter with the EEC.

Mr. Adam Butler:

The survey of marginal land throughout the United Kingdom is now complete and work is progressing on the preparation of a case for extension of the less favoured areas. I understand that my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, hopes to submit this case, which will cover Northern Ireland, to the EC Commission around the turn of the year.
