HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 c352W
Mr. Grist

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what non-tariff barriers are placed in the way of imports and reimports of commercial road vehicles to the United Kingdom from other EEC countries: and to what extent these barriers relate to the prices to be charged in the United Kingdom market.

Mr. Peter Rees:

National type approval for commercial vehicles, which is shortly to be introduced, is intended to improve road safety standards. The Government are looking towards the harmonisation of all vehicle regulations within the Community. It is not clear whether remaining differences between standards for commercial vehicles in individual European Community countries have a bearing on prices in force.
