HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 c386W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will take steps to promote the harmonisation of the policies of the members of the Atlantic Alliance towards supplies of arms to countries in areas where clear threats to peace exist.

Mr. Hurd:

Her Majesty's Government, in common with most of their allies, already take careful account of the impact of each arms sales proposal on the stability of the region in question before authorisation is given. I doubt whether harmonisation of policy within NATO is feasible. NATO and EC countries do, of course, observe United Nations arms embargoes.
