HC Deb 27 October 1981 vol 10 c328W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent the evidence he has received shows that diabetic patients with kidney disease have achieved better control of diabetes when treated for both conditions on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg:

I am not aware of any formal clinical trials on the effects of treating diabetic patients with chronic renal failure by continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. It is thought possible that by putting insulin in the dialysis fluid a more even control of blood sugar may be achieved but it is as yet too early to evaluate the long term effects of this form of treatment for diabetic patients.
