Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the individuals and representatives of organisations with whom he has discussed during the past six months the improvement of services for the mentally handicapped in Wales.

Mr. Michael Roberts:

The Welsh Office has regular contact with a wide range of individuals and organisations concerned with the care of mentally handicapped people with the continuous aim of improving services. My right hon. Friend will be addressing a specially convened conference on this matter in Cardiff on Tuesday 3 November, to which my right hon. Friend has invited representatives of the county councils, the Council for the Principality, the area health authorities, the main voluntary bodies concerned, the principal professional advisory bodies, the Manpower Services Commission and the Housing Corporation.
