HC Deb 27 October 1981 vol 10 cc318-9W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are currently unemployed in the London borough of Islington; how many are on Manpower Services Commission schemes; and what were the comparable figures a year ago.

Mr. Alison:

At October 1981 the provisional number of people registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Holloway and Kings Cross employment offices, which closely corresponds to the London borough of Islington, was 17,641. The corresponding figure at October 1980 was 10,478.

The number of people participating in the community enterprise programme in the borough of Islington at the end of August 1981 was 56. There is no comparable figure for the previous year.

The community industry unit covering the boroughs of Camden and Islington employed 114 people on 13 August 1981 compared with 107 people on 14 August 1980.

Information on the number of people participating in the youth opportunities programme is not available for individual boroughs within London.
