HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c234W

Mr. Skinner asked the Prime Minister whether, and for what reasons, she authorised the expenditure of £12,069 on a flat constructed in the Welsh Office in Cardiff for the use of the Secretary of State for Wales.

The Prime Minister:

Yes. I authorised the long-overdue provision of a modest flat in the Welsh Office, Cardiff, for use by Ministers and senior officials who may need to stay there overnight because of public engagements or emergencies. After scrutiny, the Secretary of State decided upon a modification of the original plans put to him and, as a result, the cost was reduced from an estimated £20,000 to £12,069.
