HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c246W

19. Mr. Garel Jones asked the Secretary of State for Industry how productivity in the steel industry in Wales has changed since January 1980.

Mr. Norman Lamont:

The British Steel Corporation's plants at Port Talbot and Llanwern account for the bulk of steel making in Wales. I understand the corporation's figures show that since January 1980 productivity at each plant has improved from 9.1 man-hours per tonne to 5.1 at Port Talbot and 7.0 to 4.7 at Llanwern.
