Mr. Carter-Jones asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will give the perinatal, neonatal and infant mortality rates by social class and in the following age ranges (a) to mothers under 16 years, (b) mothers under 20 years, (c) mothers aged 20 to 24 years, (d) mothers aged 25 to 29 years, (e) mothers aged 30 to 34 years and (f) mothers aged over 35 years; and if he will make a statement.

Perinatal, neonatal and infant deaths in Northern Ireland by social class for 1979 are given in the table below. This is the latest year for which information is available, and the figures are provisional. Analysis by age of mother is not possible.

The recommendations of the Baird report on infant mortality and handicap in Northern Ireland are being implemented as resources permit.

Mr. Carter-Jones asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will give the perinatal, neonatal and infant mortality rates for Northern Ireland in 1980 by region and area health authority; and if he will make a statement.

The perinatal, neonatal and infant mortality rates for the four health and social services board areas and for Northern Ireland in 1980 are set out in the following table.
