HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c223W

Mr. Ray Powell asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department where shelters for civil defence purposes in the event of a nuclear attack are located in Mid-Glamorgan; and who will be allowed access to such shelters in the event of nuclear attack.

Mr. Patrick Mayhew:

It is not in the public interest to disclose the location of wartime regional government headquarters. In a war, emergency sub-regional headquarters would be manned by representatives of key Government Departments and other essential services under the control of a Minister appointed as the sub-regional commissioner.

Mr. Dobson asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is proposed that in the event of an imminent nuclear attack places will be provided in bunkers for hon. Members.

Mr. Mayhew:

Seventeen Ministers, appointed as sub-regional commissioners, will be located in sub-regional headquarters.
