HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c231W

Mr. Teddy Taylor asked the Lord Privy Seal if, in his endeavours to seek a Middle East settlement, he has ascertained any recent change in the attitude of the Palestine Liberation Organisation to the continued existence of the State of Israel.

Mr. Hurd:

We constantly impress upon the PLO the importance of making clear in public its acceptance of Israel's right to live in peace and security as part of a comprehensive peace settlement meeting legitimate Palestinian aspirations. The PLO continues to see difficulty in giving away what it sees as its major bargaining card without major concessions in return. We shall continue to urge it to make their position clear.
