HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c284W

Mr. Teddy Taylor asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the working of the Children and Young Persons Act; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg:

The Children and Young Persons Act 1969 contained a large number of provisions of different kinds, many of which have worked well. The Government's White Paper—Cnmd. 8045—proposed amending the Act in certain respects to improve the provisions for dealing with young offenders. In addition, we think it unnecessary for the regional planning of accommodation for children in care to be on a statutory basis and we shall, when possible, introduce legislation for the repeal of the relevant provisions.
