Mr. Cook asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the total amount of revenue forgone as a result of the exemption from capital transfer tax of gifts and bequests to political parties, and if he will allocate this relief to each of the main parties.

Mr. Ridley:

The revenue forgone from the exemption for bequests to political parties is very small. I am afraid that information on which to base an estimate of the revenue forgone from gifts to political parties, or of the allocation of the relief between parties, is not available.
