HC Deb 23 October 1981 vol 10 c196W

Mr. O'Halloran asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations have been made to him by the Highgate Society concerning the consultation letter "New Uses for Special Development Orders", by which planning permission could be automatically assumed for certain categories of development; what reply he has sent; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw:

The Highgate Society wrote to my right hon. Friend on 14 September expressing opposition to any new use of special development orders. The Department acknowledged its letter on 24 September and assured the society that its views would be taken into account. Decisions have yet to be taken on the extent to which the SDO procedure might be used .
