HC Deb 23 October 1981 vol 10 c195W

Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures are being taken to reduce the number of cases of hypothermia in the coming winter; and what part he expects health boards, local authorities and the fuel boards to play .

Mr. Allan Stewart:

The authorities concerned are well aware of the dangers of hypothermia, especially among the elderly in very cold weather, and work closely together to minimise the risks .

This year, in addition to the usual distribution of a leaflet for the elderly, the Scottish Health Education Group has produced a resource pack of helpful information for organisations in touch with elderly people to distribute as appropriate. A set of this material is being placed in the Library.
