Mr. Pavitt asked the Lord Privy Seal what has been the total of funds granted by the United Kingdom to sustain the Common Market European University Institute in Florence since its inception; and how many British students there have been at the institute.

Mr. Humphrey Atkins:

A total of £2.6 million has been granted by the United Kingdom to the European University Institute in Florence. Forty-two British postgraduate research students have studied there since students were first accepted in 1976.
