Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of people were registered as unemployed in the Edinburgh travel-to-work area in June of the past three years; and what were the corresponding figures for males, females and young people, respectively.

The information is not available in the precise form requested. An age analysis of the unemployment register is carried out quarterly in January, April, July and October. The following table shows the numbers registered as unemployed in July in each of the past three years.
