HC Deb 20 October 1981 vol 10 cc115-6W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take measures to reverse the continued movement of population out of the city of Dundee; and if he will take steps to encourage young people in particular to stay in the city by improved job provision.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher:

Dundee enjoys special development area status whereby maximum incentives are available to encourage the establishment and expansion of industry and the Scottish Development Agency is undertaking a major development programme in the City. Young people in the city of Dundee will benefit, in addition, from the expansion of the Government's programme of special employment measures announced on 27 July, which included a further major allocation of resources to the youth opportunities programme and other schemes aimed at alleviating unemployment amongst the young and improving the opportunities available to them to undertake skill training or further education.
