HC Deb 20 October 1981 vol 10 cc113-4W
Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the percentage of school leavers during 1980 and so far in 1981 who obtained apprenticeships for a period of three years and more; and if he will give figures for 1977, 1978 and 1979.

Mr. Alison:

The information is not available in the form requested.

However, from results of a survey started in 1978 it is estimated that in England and Wales about a quarter of 16-year-olds entering employment, both in 1978 and 1979, had a first job that involved an apprenticeship or similar skilled training lasting two years or more. Information for 1980 is not yet available.
