HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 cc2-3W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in view of the variation which exists in the fat content of minced meat he will take steps to regulate that fat content and to introduce minimum standards of quality: and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner:

We have no plans to introduce legislation to control the composition of fresh mince. A statutory limit on the fat content would restrict consumer choice, in terms of price as well as quality, and might in some cases lead to price increases.
