§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Prime Minister when Her Majesty's Government expect to respond to the report of the Royal Commission on legal services, Cmnd. 7648 of October 1979, particularly with regard to the solicitors' conveyancing monopoly.
§ The Prime Minister:The Royal Commission on legal services' recommendations, many of which are recommendations for action by the legal profession, represent a long-term programme. They must be considered in the light of prevailing circumstances, including the availability of resources: decisions are being taken whenever these permit. In particular, responsibility for criminal legal aid has been transferred to the Lord Chancellor. The recommendations relating to conveyancing are being studied, but no decisions have yet been taken.
