asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many industrial sites are listed by the Health and Safety Executive as major hazards in England, Wales and Scotland, respectively.

Mr. Waddington:

497 industrial sites in Great Britain are currently listed by the Health and Safety Executive as major hazards. It is not the practice to publish any geographical breakdown of the list, for reasons of confidentiality.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many enforcement notices were served by the Health and Safety Executive on industrial sites listed as major hazards in each of the years 1978, 1979, 1980 and up to the latest convenient date in 1981, in (a) England, (b) Wales and (c) Scotland.

The numbers of enforcement notices served by the Health and Safety Executive on listed major hazard sites in the years in question are set out in the table below:
