HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 c74W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has any plans to allocate extra resources to encourage more children to remain at school after 16 years.

Dr. Boyson:

As announced by the Prime Minister on 27 July 1981, the Government are planning an additional £60 million—£50 million for England—in 1982–83 to allow for increased numbers of 16 to 19-year-olds to stay on in full-time education in school or college, particularly in areas of high unemployment.
