Mr. Chris Patten

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many foreign nationals were employed in total by his Department abroad on 1 July in each of the years 1975 to 1981.

Records are not maintained in the form requested, but my best assessment of the number of foreign nationals employed at 1 July for the years in question is as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many foreign nationals were employed in the dockyards in Gibraltar on 1 July in each of the years 1975 to 1981.

The number for foreign nationals managed by the general manager, Gibraltar dockyard on 1 July in each of the years in question is:
