§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Lord Privy Seal how many diplomats have been expelled from the United Kingdom during each of the years from 1970 to 1981; what were their names, ranks and the missions to which they were accredited; in each case whether the fact of such expulsion was announced by Her Majesty's Government and, if so, whether the reason for expulsion was given; and if either the fact or the reason was not announced, on what basis it was withheld.

1971 105 Soviet officials were expelled of whom 71 were members of the staff of the Soviet Embassy. Mr. S. H. A. Aulaqi, Second Secretary, People's Democratic Republic of Yemen Embassy. 1972 Mr. A. Amer, First Secretary, People's Democratic Republic of Yemen Embassy. 1973 Mr. A. Diaz Rovirosa, First Secretary, Cuban Embassy. 1978 Mr. A. H. Ali, Counsellor. Lt. Col. F. A. S. Al–Shakir, Assistant Military Attaché. Mr. F. H. Al-Kaisi, Third Secretary. Major T. M. S. Al-Obaidi, Assistant Military Attaché. Mr. F. M. Mahmoud, Counsellor. Mr. H. A. R. Hajo, Second Secretary. Mr. H. Al-Yousif, Assistant Cultural Counsellor. All from the Iraq Embassy. 1980 Mr. M. Kusa, Secretary of People's Committee, The People's Bureau of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. 1981 Mr. V. N. Lazine, Second Secretary, USSR Embassy. Announcements were made concerning the departure of all the above, with the exceptions of Mr. Aulaqi in 1971, Mr. Amer in 1972 and Mr. Diaz Rovirosa in 1973, when it was considered that it was not in the public interest to make any statement. It is still considered that it is not in the public interest to release details of the Soviet officials expelled in 1971.
