HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 cc73-4W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his latest estimate of his Department's expenditure for 1981–1982 in civilian industry; and how that expenditure divides between British and foreign industry.

Mr. Pattie:

Our latest estimate of expenditure on Defence equipment (including materials and services) to be purchased from British industry in 1981–82 is that it is likely to be around £5 billion. As showm in the statement on the Defence Estimates 1981 (Cmnd No. 8212), over 75 per cent. of our expenditure on equipment is with British industry, while about 15 per cent. relates to collaborative projects in which British industry has a substantial share of the work. The remaining 10 per cent. is in respect of contracts placed overseas.
