§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Transport which classes of road showed significant year-to-year deterioration in any of the surveyed types of defects in the national road maintenance condition survey in (a) 1980 and (b) 1981; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe 1980 national road maintenance condition survey indicated that, for three classes of road, conditions since 1977 continued to remain stable. For the remaining four classes of road, the underlying trend suggested some improvement in conditions. Results for 1981, which have not yet been received from all authorities, will be published next March.
