§ Mr. WhitelawThe appointment of senior officers in the West Yorkshire force is a matter for the police authority, subject to my approval under the Police Act 1964. I exercise my satutory function through well established consultation procedures which enable the police authority to know, before it prepares a short list, of any applicants whom I would not be prepared to approve.
