§ 39. Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how the Government will seek to ensure that all individuals, whatever their race, colour or creed, have equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities, as outlined in the Gracious Speech.
§ Mr. RaisonWe shall continue to pursue policies designed to eliminate racial discrimination and combat racial disadvantage. My right hon. Friend has already indicated the lines of action he intends to pursue in relation to the report of the Home Office study of racial attacks and Lord Scarman's report on the Brixton disturbances. We are now considering the reports of the Home Affairs Committee on racial disadvantage and the law on public order, and hope to publish our responses to these reports shortly. We also look forward to receiving the Committee's forthcoming report on the operation and effectiveness of the Commission for Racial Equality.
