§ Mr. MellorThe United Kingdom plays a full and constructive part in the development of all aspects of Community energy policy, based on the need—recognised by the EC Energy Council and Heads of Government—to diversify our economies away from oil dependence and to make the most of the energy resources of member States. Coal has an important part to play in this process; and prudent management of the nation's limited oil and gas resources is in the interests both of the United Kingdom and of the Community in assisting the general process of adjustment.
