asked the Secretary of State for Transport what proportion of the motorway and trunk road maintenance budget was spent on motorways in each year since 1975–76; and what is the estimated proportion for 1981–82.

The proportion of the motorway and trunk road maintenance budget spent on motorways for each year from 1975–76 is set out below. The estimated proportion for the current year is 58 per cent.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the maintenance expenditure in 1980 survey prices per mile of English non-motorway trunk roads in (a) 1975–76 and (b) 1980–81; what was the average daily traffic flow in those years; what was the average daily flow of heavy goods vehicles; and what was the percentage change in each factor in the period.
