HC Deb 23 November 1981 vol 13 cc309-10W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his current estimate of the number of pharmacists due to be trained over the next five years; and how this estimate compares with that made one year ago.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

An estimate of the number of students due to be trained over the next five years cannot be given as the course is one of three or four years duration. The following figures indicate the number of students in schools of pharmacy over the last five academic years.

number
1977–1978 3,692
1978–1979 3,662
1979–1980 3,585
1980–1981 3,671

Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pharmacists have completed their training in each of the past three years.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

The number of pharmacists admitted to the register on completion of their training in each of the last three years is:

number
1980 1,069
1979 1,115
1978 1,048
