Mr. Ted Fletcherasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, in view of apprehension felt by disabled people at having their names shown on the orange badge displayed on disabled persons' cars, he will consider replacing the name with a serial number.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeI am not aware of any widespread apprehension. Badges already carry the serial number of the issuing authority but this information alone would not provide the police and traffic wardens with a ready means of establishing identity and checking ownership of the badge when mis-use by an able-bodied person is suspected.
