§ 42. Mr. Parkerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he proposes to take in respect of the proposed development of the car park site beside the National Gallery.
§ Sir George YoungMy right hon. Friend wishes to see this site developed as soon as possible to provide an extension to the National Gallery. He therefore proposes to lease the site to a private developer, who will be required to provide free gallery space funded by private development on the lower floors. To encourage the highest standard of design on this important site my right hon. Friend proposes to hold a developer/architect competition. Full details will be announced shortly.
