HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 cc67-8W
44. Mr. Colin Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many places are currently vacant in the youth opportunities programme.

Mr. Alison

On 2 October 1981 there were 45,000 opportunities immediately available to young people.

48. Mr. Colvin

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied that the youth opportunities programme Christmas undertaking will be honoured.

Mr. Alison

Up to the end of September about 190,000 school leavers had entered the youth opportunities programme. It is still too early to say whether the Christmas undertaking will be fully met, but I am satisfied that all those concerned are making every effort to meet it.

57. Mr. Ashton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will now increase the £23.50 weekly payment for young people taking part in the youth opportunities programme.

Mr. Alison

We are considering the level of allowance in the light of advice we have received from the Manpower Services Commission and will be making an announcement shortly.
