§ Mr. Freesonasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will arrange for the managers and staff of employment offices to advise employers about the work capabilities of people with sickle cell disease to ensure that such people are not unfairly discriminated against.
§ Mr. Alison[pursuant to his reply, 16 November 1981]: When Manpower Services Commission staff are talking to an employer about an individual with sickle cell disease they would, on the basis of the medical evidence available about that individual, explain and advise on the employment implications. They would also stress the individual's abilities. The Employment Medical Advisory Service would also be available to give advice to employers about this fortunately rare disease.
