asked the Lord President of the Council how many press and public relations officers are currently employed in the Departments for which he is responsible; what is the total cost per annum; and what were the comparable figures for May 1979 and May 1980.

None. In May 1979 and May 1980 there were two press officers assigned to the then Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in his capacities as Leader of the House of Commons and Minister for the Arts, at a total cost of £19,829 and £22,377 per annum respectively.
